OP-ED: A Cross Section Of The Just Concluded Lere Local Government Chairmanship Election, By Yahaya Goje

I find it very important to speak out to the best of my knowledge that democracy played its course in lere local government and therefore history should record that it was peaceful after a while, with figures APC 36, 389 and PDP 24, 294. The people's votes to Hon. Abubakar Buba secured him as the re-elected Chairman.

History witnessed the event from morning hours. They beautiful deciding Morning 4th September, 2021 as at 9am witnessed all the agents of the contesting political parties present at the disbursement of Electorial machines and materials from the Siecom office at the local government secreratriat distributed to the 11 wards.

The results of the just concluded elections after all verification presented lere local government elections to be the highest in terms of turn out with evidence of figures and peaceful atmosphere despite a few cases of issues in one or two wards.

My ward added credence to the elections by publicly opening and arranging all the materials of the individual polling unit as at 10:30. All adhoc staff of Seicom after being well trained, still took a few mins to open one of the machines and review the procedures of setting up the electronic voting machines to all of the election staff.  The adhoc staff where therefore 99% well prepared to handle there machines before leaving the ward collation centre and therefore advanced to the individual polling units with uniform men from various security forces.

My experience as  an APC stalk holder supervising a neck named PDP ward Yarkasuwa ward was interesting. My reasons are comforting because we the stake holders held meetings 3 times on how to educate the citizens on why their votes counts and why it is important to vote prosperity not based on emotions or sentiments.

During our door to door campaigns in yarkasuwa ward citizens asked good questions and the best possible answer was given with explanations. The honest truth is that democracy is in the hands of the citizens and the citizens of lere constituency did everything possible to protect a peaceful voting.

We gathered unitedly for the elections as a family. It was nice having the presence of my brother, the federal member lere constituency who based on understanding i stepped down after i and my group considered party unity first to give the elected house of representative member support at the last month federal elections conducted by Inec.
It was true that the APC lere local government witnessed Eng. Munir Ahmed support for his Dg campaign Elected Chair Abubakar Buba.

The successes are plenty following details. Crisis management, security, successful voters right protected through the electronic machines, unity within the party members after a few episodes of internal rival disagreements. These and more winning points keeps counting.

In no sooner or later days, we should host town halls meetings to appreciate electorates and prepare them in partnership to achieve alot with the limited time and limited resources.

I want to conclude by thanking the Governor of kaduna state Mal. Nasir El- rufai for supporting Siecom in all they need to have the best elections. May democracy and good governance have its course.
