COVID-19: Gov El-Rufai suspends Kurama, Kagoro day celebration

The annual Cultural day celebration of Akurmi people of Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State slated for 26th December 2020 has been suspended by the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai.
The Kurama day as it’s popularly called was suspended because of the second wave of covid-19 with its trend being manifested in many parts of the country.
A statement signed by Dauda N Barau, President Federated Kurama Association (FKA) said the 2020 Akurmi Cultural day was suspended as a result of the unfortunate upsurge of the dreaded Corona Virus in the country and with particular reference to it’s trend in Kaduna State.
“We have just received a message from Kaduna State Government through the Executive Chairman of Lere Local Government that the Akurmi people should suspend the hosting of their Cultural Day celebrations for the meantime given the current realities confronting us.
“Consequently, as a law-abiding people whom the State Government has recognized us to be, we have no option but to follow the advice for our common good,” Barau said
Our correspondent further gathered that Kagoro day has been equally suspended by the Kaduna state government.
Barau enjoined the Kurama people to co-exist in the atmosphere of peace with all people and live with strict compliance to covid-19 guidelines, especially in the coming festive season.
