We won’t enroll in FG’s IPPIS, ABU lecturers insist

The Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, has insisted that there was no going back in their resolve not to enroll in the Federal Government’s Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System as directed by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd).
The ABU chapter Chairman of the ASUU, Prof. Rabiu Nasiru, made this known. Nasiru also said the Union had commenced mobilisation of its members for an impending showdown with the Federal Government not only on the IPPIS issues but other challenges bedeviling the Nigerian universities. However, he acknowledged that the lecturers in the institute had received their January salary, reiterating that the issue of members enrolling in the IPPIS was forgone. This, he noted, was because the IPPIS was not transparent, adding that the issue was brought to the fore to distract ASUU from other pending matters with the government.Nasir said, “We have received our January salary but you know we have quite a number of issues with the Federal Government. IPPIS was just brought in to distract ASUU. So, we continued with our mobilisation. In fact, mobilisation is going on now nationwide. “We are not going to register for the IPPIS if given the grace by the FG. We don’t believe in IPPIS. It’s not a transparent process. It does not address our peculiarity.”
